HARRISBURG: After dedicating 55 years of his life to promoting, protecting and preserving our outdoor heritage, the founder of the Adams County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs (ACFSC) was honored for his years of service.
Edward Fuhrman, 84, of McSherrystown, was honored October 6th with the Adams County Federation’s “Pioneer Award.”
“His love for the outdoors, his passion for teaching our youth, and his dedication to conserving natural resources, puts him among the best when it comes to the development of conservation in Adams County,” said David Swope, Secretary of ACFSC, as he presented the award.
Fuhrman has always been on the cutting edge of sportsmen’s issues and conservation. In 1946 he was a co-founder of McSherrystown Fish and Game Protective Association, he founded the Adams County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs in 1948, he was instrumental in creating the Farm and Game Program in 1952, and he was a Hunter’s Education Instructor before the mandatory Hunter’s Education Course even started.
“Ed Fuhrman sets a wonderful example for all sportsmen and women,” says Melody Zullinger, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs. “He understands the issues facing our outdoor heritage and recognizes the important role our grass-roots members play in shaping policy.”
“As sportsmen, we are fortunate to be left with this legacy, this great heritage,” Fuhrman said. “We cannot continue walking alone and expect to maintain our rich heritage. We must unite as a team; upholding our rights to hunt, fish, and trap in the Commonwealth.”
Then, on behalf of ACFSC, Fuhrman presented a $1,500 donation to Lowell Graybill, President of the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, “to help them continue their work representing the sportsmen and women of PA, by protecting, preserving and promoting our great outdoor heritage and the resource,” Fuhrman said.
“The PFSC thanks you, and all of Adams County, for this sizable donation and your commitment to our cause,” Graybill said.
Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs provides a statewide,
united voice for the concerns of all sportsmen and conservationists; to insure
their rights and interests are protected, and to protect and enhance the
environment and our natural resources.
“The Adams County Federation is contributing to the cause more than ever, because of Ed’s drive to recruit and retain good people who make sound decisions,” said Swope. “All county officers elected over the past three years have reflected Ed’s determination to make the voice of sportsmen and women heard.”
